“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”— Matthew 28:19-20
According to the teachings of Christ, discipleship is not an option — it is essential to the Christian faith. It is the guiding light found in Christian community for the new believer.
True discipleship spans the journey from accepting Christ to one’s final moment before meeting Him. Eternity is decided by the choices we make between these two defining moments.
Discipleship is Christ’s standard to prepare us to meet Him — it is the essence of God’s love poured out from one believer into another.
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”John 13:35
The Problem
The Body of Christ is at great risk without discipleship. Many no longer answer the call to go deeper with their commitment to Christ. Traditional discipleship is too often replaced with pamphlets, trendy conferences, and quick coffee shop meetings — offering exactly what Scripture warns against:
“They offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wounds.”Jeremiah 6:14
But at Liberty Place, the love of Christ compels us to be faithful to what truly transforms lives. After accepting Jesus as Lord, it is critical that we walk with new believers in community — teaching covenant relationship with the Lord, and encouraging them to stay rooted in His love.
Through the eyes and heart of Jesus, we put our compassion into relating to each person and their individual needs — then we meet them there. We find common ground as brothers in Christ and let His Word settle our differences and His love mend our hearts.
“It’s not about trying to change people — it’s about learning to love them where they are and leading them to Jesus. He will change their life.”
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.1 Corinthians 13:7
“Love always endures. Loving people isn’t always easy — but it’s always possible through the heart of Christ.”— Eddy Sowulski, Ministry Director, Liberty Place Discipleship
